This is the actual contact reader allowing the iPad 3G sim card to be read. If you have for any reason damaged this part, the iPad may not be able to connect to the internet via the 3G network.
The standard error message on the iPad will be No SIM even when the SIM card is inserted.
Please note that this can be a difficult home repair.
